What makes Start Right Volleyball different from other programs?

Our goal is to give opportunities for kids to learn the skills of volleyball without the pressure of game competition. Our focus is to use volleyball skill development as a means to help kids gain confidence, and “learn to learn” all while having fun.

Not every kid is made out to dive straight into matches, and often it only takes one or two bad interactions for the kids to drop out. We aim to be a place where kids can feel safe to try, fail and try again until they get it.

We incorporate fun and challenging semi-competitive games which match the skills of the group. Example first groups to complete 10 passes, first group to get 10 serves in, who can make the most the most passes in 30 seconds ect.

Do you have club teams?

No, Our focus is on volleyball skill development. If your child is interested in advancing to a competitive club setting we can help you in choosing the right program for your child.

Who typically joins in the program?

For some kids Start Right Volleyball may be all they chose to do and are happy to have a supportive environment where they can be active without the pressure of game competition.

For others, it's a stepping stone to joining a school or club team.

And other kids choose to be involved with Start Right volleyball while being part of a team so they can focus on their skill development.

My child has never played volleyball before. Will they be welcomed?

Yes, As the name suggests, Start Right Volleyball is a great place to begin. All of us need to start somewhere and what better place than in an environment where Igniting Joy is central to everything we do. Our only ask is that the kids stay engaged and try their best.

Question 5

How long do kids typically stay in the program?

Accepted Answer

For some kids, they may only do one 8 week program. For others this is their main athletic extracurricular activity and are involved in multiple sessions per year. We believe that it is important for kids to be involved in various activities…we just hope Start Right is their favourite.

Question 6

Can parents watch or volunteer?

Yes! We encourage parental involvement (but not sideline coaching!) We ask that if you are in the gym that you stay present. The kids will feel more supported, and you will lower the chances of getting hit with a stray ball! (if you need to use your phone we ask you step outside)

Will my child be safe participating?

Accepted Answer

It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to ensure that the child participating is both physically and mentally able to participate.

Start Right Coaches are required to have yearly vulnerable sector criminal record checks completed, as well as maintain a minimum Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED Level C certification.

Start Right Volleyball holds at minimum a 5 million dollar general liability insurance policy.

Are you associated with Start Right Basketball?

Yes. Start Right Volleyball was founded after shortly after the launch of Start Right Basketball in 2025. Both programs focus on the same foundational principals and researched back approach. Our goal with both programs is to ignite the joy of sport, and this way kids have two option if basketball or volleyball is not their thing.
